About us
Cologne brewery culture with the best quality right next to the cathedral
Visit the most impressive brewery in Cologne. With the renovation and reopening of our brewery taproom in spring 2008, we have restored the venerable and listed Deichmannhaus to its original appearance and given the people of Cologne and visitors to the city a piece of urban tradition from the Wilhelminian era.
Middle-class, hearty, cozy
Enjoy Cologne’s relaxed brewery culture. Gaffel am Dom is a typical Rhineland brewery: down-to-earth, hearty, cozy, and, as is so characteristic of the Rhineland, positive, cheerful, and full of sunshine. You can feel the sunny Cologne spirit everywhere. This is where the metropolitan flair of the European hub of Cologne meets the tranquil village atmosphere of Cologne: spacious, bright areas with long bars, benches, and tables on the one hand, and cozy corners and quiet areas on the other.

Located in the historic Deichmannhaus
Thanks to its imposing, listed façade, the Deichmannhaus is one of the city’s most famous buildings. The neoclassical building was named after Wilhelm Ludwig Deichmann. A Lutheran, he was apprenticed to the Catholic Abraham Schaaffhausen in 1818, married his daughter, and ran the banking house of the same name until the great crisis of 1848. After a few years, Deichmann moved to his own bank, “Deichmann & Co.” on Trankgasse (which was henceforth known as the Deichmannhaus), and in 1870 he co-founded Deutsche Bank. From 1827 to 1860, Cologne’s first museum, the Wallrafianum, predecessor of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum and other Cologne museums, was also located there. The rector of Cologne University, Ferdinand Franz Wallraf (1748-1824), had bequeathed his extensive collection of manuscripts, documents, and seals to the city, thus laying the foundation for today’s museum city.
The ambiance promises culinary delights and excellent beer on tap. The menu features hearty regional specialties for small and large appetites, complemented by seasonal dishes and a wide variety of specialties.
Freshly tapped Gaffel Kölsch, of course.
The name “Gaffel” is a commitment. The barrel-fresh Kölsch supply works smoothly. If you want to drink a glass of wine with your meal, you’ll have a hard time fending off the Köbes with his Kölschkranz. But he won’t let you down when it comes to choosing a wine or ordering non-alcoholic beverages.
The Gaffel am Dom offers everything your heart desires—depending on your mood and state of mind, you will find a down-to-earth home away from home that invites you to linger, socialize, enjoy conversation, and above all, enjoy good food and drink, just as you would expect from a brewery in Cologne.
